A high school drop-out has first sexual experience, which results in false charge of rape. Spends the night in drinking bout with two friends. Did he run because she screamed rape, or did she scream rape because he ran?
Attica: A Woman's Life - An infant is hidden in an attic and discovered upon the mother's death 20 years later. A militant feminist exploits her, she learns about the world, marries and dies. Mother's diary explains why she was attic bound.
The Heritage Papers - A Professor of Theatre goes undercover to learn the circumstances of his brother's strange death. He discovers an international plot by the CEOs of some major corporations to control the Third World through multiple illegal schemes. Is our government in on it? People die.
Second Mate - Two couples, close friends for years, are caught up in the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s-70s. By slow steps they become entangled in mate swapping, believing that two mates are better than one. Each character learns a different lesson from the experience. This is not an erotic novel, but a semi-factual journey into the minds of the participants, as they told their stories to the author.
Plays
In the Well of the House - This play has been produced since 1975 in NY, Kansas City, L.A, Orlando. The true story of the downfall of Adam Clayton Powell as engineered by his friends. His minor crimes were caught in the White backlash of the 60s and he died of a broken heart shortly after. Joe Papp produced the play at Public Theatre.
Shadow and Light - A Catholic priest in New Mexico uses the Church to protect his negritude from pain. He has adopted a foundling Hispanic girl who is now 17 and his housekeeper. His adversary is a black local school teacher, an atheist. Girl claims seeing and talking with Virgin Mary. Priest won't accept miracle. Girl predicts happenings. Finally, girl is accidentally killed and priest becomes a believer. Written in 1996.
Runaway Home - The novel described above written as a play. Produced in 1978 by D.C. New Playwrights' Theatre.
The Trial Postponed: Libby Holman vs. N. Carolina - Based on real case of mysterious death of Reynolds tobacco heir in 1932. Holman was indicted but never tried until this play. Twisted factual plot, bizarre characters. Subject of two movies, three books, but never a play. (Had one staged reading in city where it happened). Written in 1996.
Enough - One-act one man play about a comedy writer who is burned out. Talks to himself and to his girlfriend who has walked out, but not given up on him. He gives up on her, and life, and commits suicide. Needs a practical one room apartment set.
Our Other Town - A one-act adaptation of a Ben Hecht short story and poor movie. An egotistical Hollywood agent accidentally sells a sexy love story to a producer and then discovers it was written by a ten year-old girl. How to keep it from the neurotic producer? The girl and her mother make demands, the agent suffers. All's well that ends well. (7 characters; 3 men, 2 women, l girl, l boy.
Screenplays
The Smithsonian Murders - Written as a Columbo mystery for when he retires, but can be written for any detective. Basically, the same plot as No Ordinary Thief. (See above.)
